Thorsten Friedrich

Thorsten Friedrich holds a diploma in Industrial Engineering and Management at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). During his studies, Thorsten was working as software developer and sales representative at eCommerce start-ups.

In 2004, Thorsten Friedrich began his professional career as Quality Manager at Jettainer, a Lufthansa Cargo company. As one of its first staff, he developed the young company’s outsourced operations and data warehousing. In 2005, he was appointed Project Manager for the integration of the US-based customers. In 2008, Thorsten relocated to Chicago to better serve the US-American market. As Head of Operations & Key Accounts USA, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic development of American customers.

Thorsten moved back to Frankfurt in 2011 to take on strategic high-tech projects at Lufthansa Cargo as Senior Project Manager Technology and Innovation. From 2014 on, he has been directing the eFreight team as Head of eFreight Global Rollout in its endeavor to digitize handling processes at the interface between air carrier and customers. He is a regular speaker at IATA events.

Manel Galindo

Manel Galindo is the CEO of WebCargo by Freightos and an enthusiastic entrepreneur who created WebCargoNet in college and built it up organically to over 1,000 customers, including some of the world’s largest providers. He continues to lead the WebCargo Division of Freightos, as well as strategic air cargo projects.

Sara Van Gelder

Sara Van Gelder joined the Cargo & Logistics department at Brussels Airport three years ago. Since then, she is in charge of the different digital transformation projects and especially the roll-out of the open data sharing platform, BRUcloud and the different applications. She graduated in 2013 from the KULeuven as a Commercial Engineer with a Master‘s in Logistics and International Business. She started her professional career in the Contract Logistic department of Kuehne+Nagel as Project Coordinator, where she coordinated multiple continuous improvement projects. Later, via her role as Project Manager of Sky Fresh, she was introduced to the air cargo industry, working on traceability and digitization of quality control for time and temperature sensitive goods. In 2017 she obtained a Postgraduate in Big Data & Analytics.

Peter Gerber

Peter Gerber was born in Gießen on 1 March 1964. After passing his university entrance exams in 1983, he studied law and business management in Gießen and Hagen. In 2008 he additionally completed the Senior Executive Programme of Columbia University, New York.

Gerber joined Lufthansa in 1992, starting his career in human resources and the law department. His main responsibilities were to develop a new pension scheme and the Miles & More programme. This was followed by various assignments within the Group, including “Programm 15”, Lufthansa’s strategic cost-saving project.

As of 1997, he was in charge of intercompany transfer pricing, fees and charges with a focus on airport and air traffic control costs, as well as relations with the federal state authorities. From 2001 to 2004 Gerber was responsible for and directed the Group-wide “D-Check” programme, which aimed to consolidate corporate earnings. From June 2003 to August 2011, Mr. Gerber was the Lufthansa spokesman for the “Air Transport Initiative for Germany”. In addition, he had responsibility for strategic corporate development in 2004.

From December 2004 to May 2009, Mr Gerber was in charge of corporate industrial relations and social security within the Lufthansa Group. In June 2009 he was appointed to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG with responsibility for Finance and Human Resources. In June 2012, Gerber switched to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Passage Airlines, where he was responsible for the Human Resources, IT & Services division.

Peter Gerber has been Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo AG since May 2014. Gerber is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Albatros Versicherungsdienste GmbH and holds a seat on the Supervisory Board of Fraport AG.

Adrian Kosowski

Adrian received his PhD in Computer Science at the age of 20 and holds Master’s and engineering degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. Recipient of numerous prizes for his scientific achievements, he has 15+ years' experience in research, mostly at Inria and Ecole Polytechnique. He is also a distinguished competitive programmer. Adrian has worked on a variety of projects related to transport and supply chain optimization. His goal is to bring a fresh scientific perspective on the challenges faced by the logistics sector, especially those linked to AI-empowered optimization and optimization in conditions of uncertainty.

Reji John

Reji is a journalist with 17 years of experience in writing, reporting, editing and collating content across media – print (magazine & newspaper), television and online and has worked with some of the leading media organizations in India. He has written and reported across subjects and beats. Reji joined STAT Media Group, a global transport and logistics publishing company with four publications and multiple sector specific logistics conferences, in 2013 to head its editorial department. He is responsible for all editorial functions at the Group and oversees all content production, including video. He has moderated and led panel discussions across all these conferences in Africa and India.

In June 2017, he was invited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialised agency of the United Nations to develop and regulate international air transport, to speak at its Second ICAO Meeting on Air Cargo Development in Africa, held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He also led the team that planned and organised the Global Perishable Conference for Cool Chain Association (CCA) in 2017 at Addis Ababa and in 2018 at Luxembourg.
